Jeff Towns and the nine-person crew of Re-Berth, Inc. contract to refurbish Global Oil Rig Thirteen after it is destroyed by Hurricane Katrina with all hands onboard, except for the mysterious Ric Waters. Waters, the sole survivor, accompanies them to the rig, announcing that the rig is haunted by the Digger Man, a Cajun mechanic who murdered the crew while possessed by an evil spirit.
Lisa Love, whose grandmother was a mambo, or voodoo priestess, determines that voodoo is at the root of their dilemma. Performing a dangerous ritual dredged up from a forgotten childhood, she learns that Damballah Wedo, Father of all Voodoo Loas, has turned evil and wishes to destroy the Gateway between the living and the dead to rule both.
